Pajamas- Six Ideas

Pajamas for Kids are the perfect Christmas Present.  We like to let our children open these special gifts on Christmas Eve so they will have new Pajamas to wear on that special night.   Here are a few pair I made for grandchildrenphone-dec-15-551

These Pajamas are perfect for the girl who loves owls.

phone-dec-15-553this Pair matches the quilt she received and is her favorite design.  I used an easy button front pattern.

the little boy who got these loves monsters and these monsters glow in the dark.  If you have a child afraid of the dark this kind of fabric might help them.  this boy is not afraid of the dark but he loves the fact that the monsters glow when the lights are out.

Do you have a sports enthusiast?  this boy love any sport that has a ball so he was really excited to receive these Pajamas

phone-feb-18-160these Pajamas have a different pattern than the button front.  They are for an older child and have a yoke top to slip their head through.  No buttons to bother with here.  They also match her quilt.

phone-dec-15-555These Pajamas are for a teenager with the yoke top and made from the same fabric as her quilt.  Yes, last year I made quilts for these children and the PJs they got for Christmas matched the quilts they received on their birthday’s that year.

Special gifts like these always bring smiles and comfort especially in times of turmoil.

I don’t just sew.  I sew to  mend hearts.  Do you?

phone-feb-18-156This kid loves Minecraft and sent me a picture of his favorite Mooze.  I printed it out as an iron on and put it on a knit top that I made and made special knit pajama bottoms for him.  It brought huge smiles.

I might add that I wouldn’t do this type of an iron on again of pajamas because it was too  rubbery.  It would be good on a T Shirt though.  this top turned out to be too short so I had to make another.  He still loved it though.

Thrifty Denim Sports Quilt

denim quilt 2 demin q with pillowcase denim quilt lable football Nate This thrifty  denim Sports quilt is made from 6 and 8 inch strips of denim and backed with 4 strips of sports fabrics.  they are, Basketball, football, soccer and baseball.  I downloaded embroidery designs onto a thumb drive for my sewing machine, (Pfaff Creative 4.5) and embroidered them.  That was really fun to do.  It is  new adventure for me, so now I will be doing this more.  There are lots of free designs out there and some nice ones for just a few dollars.  I put his name in the middle to make it extra personal. He will have this forever! Don’t forget to use embroidery thread.  I used 100% polyester from Sulky and Floriani.

The label is made from a jeans pocket and machine embroidery for the words. for a treasure like this, always add a label with the recipient’s name and yours.  You should also date it and put who quilted it if it was done by someone else.

It is always an extra bonus to made a matching pillow case so this one is made from the scraps from the back with a strip of football fabric for the trim and also on the border of the quilt since this is his favorite sport.  Basketballs on the cuff and then the body is baseballs on one side and soccer balls on the other.  That should delight any boy who loves sports.

I machine quilted it horizontally about every 3 inches.

Shirt & Tie Wrap

Shirt & Tie Wrap DIY

Shirt and tie wrap! This just might be the most admired package under your tree.

First I found an old shirt My husband no longer wanted or else I bought it at the thrift store.

Found an old die also to use.

December things 003

Next put the box with the present in side it.  inside of the shirt and then trim away the extra fabric so you can size up the box and shirt together.  Just make sure you leave enough room for seams.  then take it off of the box and sew up the ends and the sides of the box.

Then put the present inside by opening it in the front with the buttons.  Of course, that is simple.  then you can use your needle and thread to take up any extra and see how the sew a piece on the corners up so that the shirt takes on a box shape.  You can get the idea from a folded  paper sack.  You might even just wrap the package with paper and not tape it.  Put creases where needed and follow that as your pattern.  Wish I had thought of that while I was doing it.  🙂

December things 004

Now do some stitching to make it fit snugly and there you have it.  a box that looks like a shirt.  It can be a dead giveaway for what is inside or you can put a complete surprise inside.  Either way, it is a bunch of fun.

December things 008

Finally add the tie to it as you see above.  I also used a tie pin without the back on it.  I just stuck it through the tie and the box and it stayed in place.

Happy wrapping.

Men’s Birthday Card

Men's Birthday Card

this birthday card for the guy in your life is made with craft card stock, two paper patterns, ribbon and metal embellishments like the key, lock and chain add a special touch to this card.  To make it all stand out, I matted it with a darker piece of card stock.

envelopeRemember if you do this to a card without cutting it down first that you will then have to use a bigger envelope.  I made one by laying the card on a piece of patterned music paper and folding around it and trimming it off.  I used the piece I cut off to shape the right side as a pattern for the left side.  that is an easy way to make them match. Everyone loves those special envelopes

Father’s Day Card

The letters are cut with a Cricut.
I stamped the leaf on light card-stock and antiqued the edges with ink and sponge.
The squares are mounted with foam tape so they will pop.
Two buttons tied together for the top corner.
On the inside is another leaf stamped in the lower corner.  Plus a greeting. “Happy Father’s Day” stamp.
Remember to sign the back!
